Program Design

The Transportation Club of Minneapolis/St. Paul is pleased to offer a merit scholarship program for the members of The Transportation Club of Minneapolis/St. Paul. Scholarships will be awarded 2 times per year up to six scholarships annually may be awarded to qualified applicants from The Transportation Club of Minneapolis/St. Paul each year. Each scholarship will be in the amount of $500.

The purpose of this award is to cover educational expenses such as tuition, books, room and board, fees, etc. Each recipient will be required to sign the attached Limitation Agreement indicating that the award, when combined with any other scholarships he or she receives, will not exceed the published estimated annual cost of attending the college, university, or trade school he/she has selected, or in which he/she already enrolled.

 

Eligibility

Members, children, grandchildren, and/or qualified dependents* who are applicants for a scholarship must have a family/legal relationship with sponsoring member. Sponsoring Members of The Transportation Club of Minneapolis/St. Paul must be members for at least one year as of January 1 of the award year and be an active member at the time the award is given in order for applicants to be eligible.

*Qualified dependents are children, stepchildren, grandchildren, adopted foster children, or children under legal guardianship of sponsoring members.

A scholarship applicant must be graduating from a secondary (high) school in the year of the award, or already be attending an accredited college, university, or trade school. Applicants must be accepted to a post secondary school in order to be eligible for the scholarship.

 

Procedure for Applying

The scholarship applicant will forward the completed Transportation Club Sponsorship Program directly to the Board of Directors of The Transportation Club of Minneapolis/St. Paul. Completed applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Selection Committee consisting of at least three individuals from the Board of Directors and/or a faculty member of local institutions of higher learning at the discretion of the Committee.

Simultaneously, the applicant will submit the enclosed Request for Secondary School Information to his or her school principal, headmaster, advisor, business office or guidance counselor to initiate action toward providing the Board of Directors with the required academic record, test scores, counselor’s report, grades, etc.

For new college or graduate students, applicants are expected to complete the American College Test (ACT), College Entrance Examination Board Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), and/or other similar tests as required by applicants selected school.

 

Required Information

All of the following are necessary:
  • Student’s program application
  • Transcript of grades and academic records to date
  • Class registration
  • SAT, ACT and/or other required test scores, for college students
  • Student GPA
  • Counselor’s letter of recommendation
  • Post secondary school acceptance letter if new student, or copy of registration if returning to college, university, and/or trade school
  • Student Application Essay
  • Student Commitment to Leadership Statement
  • Other pertinent information as may be requested by the Committee during the selection process
  • Other pertinent information as may be gathered by the Committee at the time of award

APPLICATIONS AND ALL SUPPORTING EVIDENCE MUST BE RECEIVED BY
THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, NO LATER THAN JUNE 30th OR JANUARY 31st OF THE YEAR OF APPLICATION. APPLICANTS WILL BE NOTIFIED OF THE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE’S DECISIONS NO LATER THAN THE END OF JULY OR DECEMBER, DEPENDING ON WHEN THE APPLICATION WAS RECEIVED.
